Uaso, Nairobi meaning "Cold Water" was the name given to a stream by the Masai tribe who brought their herds of cattle to graze in the area. This is the area presently known as Nairobi. It was chosen in the early 20th century as the administrative center for the newly created East Africa Protectorate, as Kenya was then known.
